We were dealing with many issues. one of which was preventing
existing homes from being mapped into the new floodway corridor. I got a call today from
a homeowner who ended up being mapped into the floodway, despite our efforts to
prevent this from happening. After reviewing my files, I have identified how this occurred.
Attached is an aerial map of this area showing the property and a possible solution. This
is the same aerial map I provided during the final phases of the FIS. My mistake at that
time was I was under the assumption the house in question had been purchased by
FEMA and removed from the property. It ends up the FEMA buyout in that area was for
a house south of the channel. not this hou~ north of the channel.

The existing house at issue was built in 1989 to current fIood-proofing codes. The BFE
then was elevation 894. The certified fIood-proofed level for the house is elevation 896.
The current BFE is elevation 893. I've attached copies of the elevation certificate and the
flood-proof basement certificate for the house. As you can see. the house is actually 3
feet above the current BFE and should not even be in the floodplain.

With this infonnation, how do you think this property owner should proceed to get his
house and surrounding property removed from the floodway? Any assistance you can
provide win be greatly,appreciated.

-
-Sincerely,
~RE NGINEER~,
J ~~áf.~

rincipal Engineer

Cc: Joofl'Swaftz
Lynn Brilz

~.

r-,..~... ,1+1.......
