CASSCOUNlY
GOVERNMENT
..I..

Office of the Sheriff

Paul D. Laney, Sheriff

August 19,2008

RECEIVED
AU6119 ZOO8

Personnel Overview Committee
Cass County Courthouse
Fargo, ND 58103

CASS COUNTY COMMISSION

Dear Committee Members:

On May 19tH, the Personnel Overview Committee tabled submitting an updated P AQ for our
Commissary Clerk until after the Commission made a decision on how the commissary program will
be handled in the future. Motion is reprinted below.

Mrs. Johnson said a new PAQ and the existing PAQ were submitted for the Commissary Clerk at the
Jail. She suggested the request be tabled until a decision has been made by the county commission
regarding how the commissary program will be handled in the future. Currently, a vending company
handles the jail commissary. The sheriff was in agreement to table the item.
MOTION, passed
Mrs. Johnson moved and Mr. Wagner seconded to table the reclassification request for
the Jail Commissary Clerk position. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously.

On June 16th, the Cass County Commission did address this issue and voted to terminate our
agreement with our current vendor which would allow the jail to manage the commissary program
independently of a third party. Motion is reprinted below.

Mrs. Sorum moved and Mr. Bennett seconded to approve the termination of the
vending machine lease agreement with Pepsi America (formerly F-M Vending), our
current vendor, effective September 3D, 2008. On roll call vote, the motion carried
unanimously.

Therefore, I would ask that the updated P AQ for our Commissary Clerk be submitted to Fox and
Lawson for review at this time.

~'

.,,~.

Paul D.
