<br />\-. <br /> <br />SUBJECT POLICY # Page of <br />MOTOR VEHICLF ?URSUIT 1.09 30f7 <br /> <br />V. CONTROL OF A MOTOR VEHICLE PURSUIT: <br /> <br />A. If a motor vehicle pursuit is initiated the deputy involved will activate <br />emergency lights and siren and immediately provide the shift supervisor with <br />the following information, usually through the Red River Regional Dispatch <br />Center. <br /> <br />1. The deputy( s) unit identification. <br />2. The reason(s) for initiating the pursuit. <br />3. The location, speed, and direction of travel of the pursuit. <br />4. The description of the vehicle being pursued. <br />5. The number of occupants in the vehicle being pursued if known. <br />6. The existing traffic conditions; i.e. volume of traffic <br /> <br />B. Failure to immediately be provided with the information above may cause the <br />shift supervisor to consider ordering termination of the pursuit. <br /> <br />C. <br /> <br />Although all deputy's involved in a motor vehicle pursuit are subordinate to <br />the shift supervisor, it will be the responsibility of the initiating deputy and or <br />primary unit to maintain control of the pursuit by: <br /> <br />\.., <br /> <br />1. Broadcasting the progress and location of the pursuit (this <br />responsibility may be give to a secondary unit if determined to be <br />appropriate by the shift supervisor or the primary police unit). <br />2. Directing and controlling the tactics of the deputy's involved in the <br />pursuit. <br />3. Determining when or if the pursuit should be terminated. <br /> <br />D. A motor vehicle pursuit will consist of no more then a primary police unit and <br />one (1) secondary police unit. The shift supervisor may authorize additional <br />units involvement, but only after considering the following: <br /> <br />1. The reason( s) for initiating the pursuit. <br />2. The number of occupants in the vehicle being pursued. <br />3. The number of deputy's involved in the pursuit. <br />4. Any other factors that may suggest an increase in risk to the deputy's <br />involved in the pursuit. <br /> <br />E. <br /> <br />If at any time the primary police unit becomes disabled, the secondary unit (or <br />other authorized police unit involved in the pursuit) will assume the <br />responsibilities of the primary police unit. All police units involved in a <br />motor vehicle pursuit will use emergency lights and siren while involved in a <br />pursuit. <br /> <br />~ <br />
