Accident reporting: <br /> <br />Cass County Sheriff Office vehicles are the property of Cass County. When <br />an employee is involved in an accident resulting in any property damage or <br />injury while operating a County vehicle, that accident will be reviewed and or <br />investigated by the Office of Professional Standards. <br /> <br />1. If the on duty supervisor determines that the involved employee <br />violated Cass County Sheriff s Office policy and procedure, supervisor <br />will initiate disciplinary action. <br />2. If the investigating agency determines that a statutory violation was <br />committed it is the responsibility of that agency to pursue the proper <br />legal action against the involved employee. <br />3. If legal action is pursued, Office of Professional Standards will not <br />pursue disciplinary action until after the legal status is resolved. <br /> <br />D. Restrictions on driving: <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />No deputy will drive past a school bus with fleshing red lights, or <br />through a school zone, as designated by flashing yellow lights at more <br />than 20 mph. <br />All passing will be done on the left (when possible). If the deputy <br />must turn right across traffic from the left lanes, he/she will slow and <br />wait until such traffic has yielded. <br />Deputies will drive to minimize the effects of gravel, water and other <br />similar objects on other vehicles or persons. <br />Deputies may not drive the wrong way on a divided or controlled <br />access highway. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />2. <br /> <br />3. <br /> <br />4. <br /> <br />E. Ride a long program: <br /> <br />The deputy may have a civilian rider accompanying him/her during a shift <br />provided the following are followed: <br /> <br />1. Any adult must first get permission from the deputies' supervisor. <br />2. The rider will be required to sign a ride-along request form and a <br />responsibility waiver which will only be valid for the date requested. <br />These must be signed by the supervisor. <br />3. Completed forms must be shown to the deputy by the rider before <br />he/she is allowed to ride.
