Deputies are responsible for the care and cleaning of all assigned <br />weapons. <br /> <br />8. Deputies weapons shall be inspected annually and the inspection shall <br />be done during the normal State qualification assignments. <br /> <br />9. Deputies must notify the department armorer if they discover an <br />inoperable or damaged weapon. The armorer shall replace or repair the <br />damaged firearm as soon as practical. <br /> <br />B. Official assigned firearms: <br /> <br />1. The Glock model 23 40 S& W pistol, and any variant of it, in 40 S& W, <br />shall be the official sidearm. Variants assigned to deputies, in regards <br />to their assigned duties, shall constitute their official sidearm. <br /> <br />2. The Remington model 870 12 gauge shall be the official shotgun. <br /> <br />3. <br /> <br />The Colt M-16 5.56 N.A.T.O./.223 Rem. selective fire rifle, and any of <br />its variants, shall be the official patrol rifle. <br /> <br />J <br /> <br />4. This policy is in no way meant to limit the deputies' use of available <br />weapons in the course of their duties. The agency understands the <br />dangers and threats the deputy's face on a daily basis and attempts only <br />to set a guideline for issued equipment. <br /> <br />C. Qualifications for assigned weapons: <br /> <br />1. Firearm qualification procedures shall be assigned to personnel <br />through out the calendar year. <br /> <br />2. Deputies will fire an approved course of fire quarterly with their <br />assigned duty weapon. <br /> <br />3. All other assigned weapons shall be fired through an approved course <br />bi-annually. <br /> <br />4. Deputies shall be notified by postings and electronic measures m <br />regards to their qualification dates at least two weeks in advance. <br /> <br />,j <br />
