POLICY: <br /> <br />To establish a standard policy that provides the guidance necessary to regulate the <br />actions of the Cass County Deputies regarding weapons. <br /> <br />II. PVRPOSE: <br /> <br />Written policy and regulations are necessary in governing the weapons policy. <br />Deputies will understand their responsibilities and requirements associated with <br />weapons issued to them in the course of their duties. Deputies shall exercise <br />reasonable judgment and safe handling procedures when dealing with issued <br />weapons. <br /> <br />III. PROCEDURAL GUIDELINES: <br /> <br />A. Duty weapons: <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />Deputies, according to their assignment, and at the discretion of their <br />supervisor, shall be issued the following weapons for use in the course <br />of their duties: Oleoresin Capsicum, EMD, Impact weapon, sidearm, <br />shotgun, and patrol rifle. <br /> <br />2. Deputies shall only carry approved and issued ammunition for their <br />department issued firearms. <br /> <br />3. Deputies who wish to carry a personally-owned weapon for duty must <br />request permission, in writing, from the Sheriff. In addition, the <br />weapon must be a Glock variant, in 40 S& W caliber, and it must be <br />loaded with approved duty ammunition. <br /> <br />4. Deputies must State qualify with all approved and issued weapons <br />before carrying them in the course of their duties <br /> <br />5. The Sheriff shall maintain a record of all weapons used by deputies <br />either on or off duty. The record shall list weapon description, <br />ammunition type issued, date of issue, and information pertaining to <br />State qualification. <br /> <br />6. <br /> <br />Deputies shall be responsible to make sure they have attended all their <br />practice and qualification shoots, unless excused by the Sheriff. <br /> <br />\. <br />
