The findings are given to the Office of <br />Professional standards to determine if an Office of Professional Standards <br />investigation is appropriate. <br /> <br />B. Formal Complaint: <br /> <br />The complaint will be investigated by the Office of Professional Standards <br />following the appropriate procedures set forth in this policy. <br /> <br />1. Anonymous Complaint: <br />It will be the discretion of the Sheriff and/or the Office of Professional <br />Standards whether or not an anonymous complaint will be <br />investigated. <br /> <br />2. Intoxicated Complainants: <br />Complaints from intoxicated people will not be taken unless there are <br />extenuating circumstances involved. <br /> <br />3. <br /> <br />Internal Employee Complaints: <br />Internal complaints alleged from one employee against another or <br />complaints filed by supervisors against their assigned staff, will be <br />investigated in the same manner as external complaints. <br /> <br />J <br /> <br />A complaint form should be completed and returned to the Office of Professional <br />Standards. The Office of Professional Standards will evaluate the complaint, assign it an <br />O.P.S. complaint number if appropriate and determine the investigative process to follow. <br /> <br />If the complaint is against an employee with rank from an employee of lesser rank, the <br />employee should contact the Office of Professional Standards to discuss the complaint. <br />The Office of Professional Standards sergeant will evaluate the allegation and determine <br />whether or not the employee should discuss the issue with the supervisor's chain of <br />command or visit directly with the Sheriff. <br /> <br />V. INVESTIGATION OF COMPLAINTS BY THE OFFICE OF PROFESSIONAL <br />STANDARDS: <br /> <br />A. A complaint form will be made available to the complainant. <br /> <br />B. If a complaint is received via mail, email, or in person, the complaint or <br />complainant will be directed to Office of Professional Standards. <br /> <br />.~ <br />
