POLICY: <br /> <br />It will be the policy of the Cass County Sheriff s Office to promptly and thoroughly <br />investigate and resolve all complaints regarding the conduct of Cass County Sheriff s <br />Office personnel, procedures and services. All investigative methods will be <br />consistent with the law, and conducted in a fair and impartial manner ensuring the <br />rights and dignity of the accused employee. If any employee who is to be investigated <br />feels there may be conflict/complaint with the Office of Professional Standards they <br />should contact the Sheriff with their concerns. The Sheriff will then decide if another <br />Deputy will be assigned to investigate the allegations or move forward with the Office <br />of Professional Standards. <br /> <br />II. <br /> <br />DEFINITION(S): <br /> <br />\., <br /> <br />The purpose of this policy is to establish and provide guidelines and procedures for <br />making complaints against Cass County Sheriff's Office personnel. This policy will <br />define the process and procedures utilized to investigate Cass County Sheriff s Office <br />personnel. This policy will also define the disciplinary process utilized if a complaint <br />is sustained against a member of the Cass County Sheriffs Office. <br /> <br />III. <br /> <br />PROCEDURAL GUIDELINES: <br /> <br />If a complainant contacts the Cass County Sheriff s Office to file a complaint against <br />an employee of the Cass County Sheriff s Office, they should be directed to the Office <br />of Professional Standards. If O.P.S. is unavailable the complainant should be advised <br />of the following: <br /> <br />. They may leave a phone message with the Office of Professional Standards. <br />. They can request a Citizen Complaint Form be mailed to them. <br />. They can come to the Sheriffs Office and obtain a complaint form. <br />. In case of an immediate situation, the Sheriff or Chief Deputy will be notified <br />to determine a course of action. <br /> <br />IV. COMPLAINT CATEGORIES: <br /> <br />A. <br /> <br />Inquiry: <br />A question as to policy or procedure. It may not warrant a complaint, but <br />rather an explanation to the complainant may solve the issue. Inquiries may be <br />assigned to a supervisor to review and determine the basis of the employee's <br /> <br />\.. <br />
