Member Bernie Ness was absent.
John Goff was also present.

2. SPACE ALLOCATION, Subcommittee report
Kathleen Ziegelmann updated the committee on discussions at the
space allocation sub-committee meetings held on July 12 and August
3, 1994. Mi nutes of both meeti ngs were provi ded to each commi ttee
membe r .

~TTENDANT CARE PROGRAM, Sub-committee to forward recommendation
l:.l' A sub-commi ttee was appoi nted at the August 3 rd space all ocati on
committee meeting to review short and long-term solutions for space
needs of the Attendant Care Program. Mrs. Hogan said that committee
wi 11 be meeti ng soon, and it was ag reed that they shou 1 d make a
recommendation directly to the Board of County Commissioners, in the
interest of time.

4.DISTRICT COURT, Space needs
Bonnie Johnson said Judge Norman Backes asked her for the name of a
contractor to get an estimate for removing walls in the county
judges chambers. Mrs. Zi ege 1 mann sai d the commi ttee understands
there is some concern about whether or not the county judges have
sufficient space to conduct their business when they become district
judges on January I, 1995.

Mrs. Toussaint said Commissioner Ness sent a memo to Judge Norman
Backes dated August 8, 1994, about swi tchi ng around the offi ces of
Eloise Haaland and Judge Ralph Erickson. Such a move would allow
the District Court to retain its jury room instead of converting it
to offi ce space. In addi ti on, the second floor heari ng room coul d
then be used for child support hearings.

Members of the commi ttee 1 earned there are rooms in the courthouse
being used for break rooms, and Mr. Wieland recommended a policy on
using the basement cafeteria on the south end and the brown bag room
in the north basement rather than havi ng break rooms for certai n
offices; however, one exception may be the break room in the
Sheriff's Department since some of their employees are available on
a 24-hour per day basis.

The Space and Planning Committee recommends a review of all existing
space to be sure it is being used for a courthouse function and, in
the interest of space, all departments are asked to give up areas
that do not meet the criteria. Chairman Steve Risher will send a
1 etter to all occupants of offi ce space in the Cou rthouse aski ng
them to re-define the use of any areas that do not meet the criteria
of a courthouse functi on, i. e. coffee rooms and storage areas not
being used to their potential.
