I
recommend that we purchase the trailers from the 2nd low bid instcad of the
lowest. We've owncd a variety of brands of gravel trailers over the years
and have had lower maintenance costs and better longevity with Clement
brand trailers than with others. In this instance Swanston Equipment was
the 2nd low bidder with the Clement trailers. The low bidder did not meet
the technical specification in two significant areas. The low bidder is a very
small manufacturing finn oUl of Texas with no dealer network. I believe it
would be in the County's best interest to award to Swanston Equipment.
I've attached a memo from Rich Sieg w'jth additional infbrmation on the
dcficicndcs of the low bid.

SUGGESTED MOTION: Authorize Chairman to sign purchase ordcr
!'()r purchase of two gravel trailers from Swanston Equipment Company in
the amount of $34.343 each.

1.'Adll1ifl.l::ng:,romlllis~ion ('ol'r~jJ:.nOj Cnrntn15Jllm fr!l"l'~pmtdeni;e'{~'()n~.ml 1'<."d:(!;() h,f PtHthaSi.' l~r ~Vavd Ir~tlh:fs d~J(
