MOTION, passed Mrs. Sorum moved and Mr. Pawluk seconded to authorize the chairman to sign an application for a 2009 Transportation Enhancement grant for a pedestrian and bicycle crossing adjacent to Cass County Highway 22 in the City of Harwood with an estimated construction cost of $391,444 and a cost share by Cass County Government not to exceed $30,000. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. 9. ROAD DEPARTMENT, Grant applications for City of Mapleton multi-use path approved Mr. Berndt is recommending the county apply for a Safe Routes to School (SRTS) grant through the North Dakota Department of Transportation in the amount of $138,498.48 to construct Phase 1 of a multi-use path adjacent to Cass County Highway 11 in the City of Mapleton. SRTS funds provide 100% funding for construction costs, but grant recipients are responsible for planning, design and administrative costs. The county applied for Transportation Enhancement funds last year, but was unsuccessful; however, this time the project is divided into two phases to improve the chances of funding. The first phase will stretch 2,000 feet from city hall to near the elementary school in Mapleton and the city will contribute not less than 50% of the planning, design and administrative costs. Mr. Berndt is recommending the county apply for a Transportation Enhancement grant in the amount of $102,086.36 to construct Phase 2 of the path. The second phase is approximately 1,500 feet and will run from the elementary school to Interstate 94 and the city will contribute not less than 10% toward the construction costs. He recommends the county share additional costs not to exceed $30,000.
