Mosquito Abatement for Safety and Health Act <br /> <br />The purpose of the MASH Act is to authorize grants through the Centers for <br />Disease Control and Prevention for mosquito control programs to prevent <br />mosquito-borne diseases, and other purposes. <br /> <br />The following criteria will be used for making grants: <br /> <br />· History of elevated incidence or prevalence of mosquito-borne disease <br />· A population of infected mosquitoes <br />· Met criteria to suggest an increased risk of elevated incidence or <br /> prevalence of mosquito-borne disease <br /> <br />The following is a requirement to receiving a grant: <br /> <br />· Has conducted an assessment to determine the immediate needs in such <br /> subdivision or consortium for a control program, including an <br /> entomological survey of potential mosquito breeding areas <br />· Has, on the basis of such an assessment, developed a plan for carrying <br /> out such a program <br />· Consortium or political subdivision agrees to make available $1 for each <br /> $2 of Federal funds provided in the grant <br /> <br />Amount of Grant: <br /> <br />· A grant awarded to a consortium of 2 or more political subdivisions that <br /> cooperate may not exceed $110,000 for each political subdivision. <br /> <br />Cass County Vector Control meets all criteria necessary for the application of this <br />grant. We would like to work in cooperation with Clay County and the City of <br />Moorhead to be a cooperative consortium, to better serve the residents of the <br />area.
