ELECTIONS BUDGET
Mr. Montplaisir discussed the 2008 election budget request of $466,484. He said
$383,000 was budgeted in 2006. He said a number of legislative changes occurred
affecting how elections are conducted. One option is to use vote centers; however,
each center would need computer connectivity and would cost from $600,000 to
$700,000. He feels a more feasible option is to open an early voting precinct in 2008
and implement the vote centers in 2010. The budget includes purchase of computer
units for the early voting precinct and for a trailer to haul election equipment; a request
for temporary staff to assist with secretarial duties during election time; and an increase
in election worker pay from $8.00 to $11.00 per hour.

Mr. Pawluk suggested the auditor's office rent a trailer during election times, which may
cost around $300 or $400.
