Commission Minutes-August 13, 2007 3257 MOTION, passed Mrs. Sorum moved and Mr. Vanyo seconded to remove the C51 Patrol Lieutenant from the Sheriff's Department budget in the amount of $102,536. On roll call vote, the motion carried with four members voting "Yes" and Mr. Bennett voting "No". Mr. Bennett feels the school districts need to help fund the school resource officer. Mr. Pawluk suggested a cost share arrangement be considered with the request approved subject to funding from the schools. MOTION, passed Mr. Vanyo moved and Mr. Bennett seconded to retain the B32 School Resource Officer in the Sheriff's Department budget contingent on 50% of the salary being funded by the school districts. On roll call vote, the motion carried with four members voting "Yes" and Mrs. Sorum voting "No". Mr. Vanyo understands the request for the additional court transport officers; however, the board needs to prioritize budget requests for next year. MOTION, passed Mr. Vanyo moved and Mr. Pawluk seconded to remove two B32 Court Transport Officers and two x-ray machines from the Sheriff's Department budget. On roll call vote, the motion carried with four members voting "Yes" and Mrs. Sorum voting "No". MOTION, passed Mr. Vanyo moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to remove $2,000 for reclassification of the A12 Jail Commissary Clerk to a B21 Account Technician; and remove $2,424 for promotion of the Juvenile Detention Director from a C41 to C43 pay grade. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. Mrs. Sorum discussed the Veterans Service request for a new employee. She said questions regarding space issues need to be answered by the building committee, and while she understands the need for an additional staff person, she cannot support the request at this time. MOTION, passed Mrs. Sorum moved and Mr. Vanyo seconded to remove the B23 Veterans Service Representative from the Veterans Service budget in the amount of $50,377. Discussion: Mr. Pawluk realizes space issues exist but feels strongly about the need for additional staff. Mr. Bennett suggested the position be approved and allow Mr. Brent to find space in the current office setting. On roll call vote, the motion carried with three members voting "Yes" and Mr. Bennett and Mr. Pawluk voting "No". The Social Service budget was discussed. Kathy Hogan, Social Services Director, was present. She said at the budget meeting last Friday, the board approved reductions of four staff and space rental costs totaling $251,932. She provided a list of $103,400 in additional reductions to be considered today.
