<br />Commission Minutes--August 16, 1999 2025 <br /> <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Wieland moved and Mr. Meyer seconded to authorize the county <br />board chair to sign the application for anhydrous ammonia license to <br />the North Dakota Department of Agriculture submitted by Thompson <br />Supply, Inc. (Robert G. Thompson, owner) of Page, North Dakota. On <br />roll call vote, motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />12. ROAD DEPARTMENT, Bridge near Mapleton to be removed <br />Keith Berndt, County Engineer, again recommended removing the bridge near the City of <br />Mapleton which was damaged in the 1997 flood. He said this item was tabled for 60 days at the <br />June 7, 1999, Road Advisory Committee meeting, at which time he was asked to prepare a cost <br />estimate for construction of a north-south road one-half mile west of this bridge. He estimated <br />the cost of building a 20' wide gravel road at two feet above the field elevation to be $71,000. <br /> <br />Mr. Koenig said he is not aware of any additional information from residents living near the <br />bridge who opposed removing it. He said there has been no verification that the bridge could <br />be repaired for the amount the residents had estimated. <br /> <br />Rosemary Heise, Mayor of Mapleton, was present and expressed support for removing the <br />bridge. She said the Mapleton City Council feels the bridge is hazardous to the city. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Koenig moved and Mr. Wieland seconded to authorize removal of <br />the Mapleton bridge. On roll call vote, motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />13. REGISTER OF DEEDS, Computer conversion update <br />Deanna Kensrud, Register of Deeds, gave an update on the backlog of returning recorded <br />documents in her department, which has now been reduced to about 3% months. As of August <br />13th, she said her office processed and mailed out 23,493 documents since January 13, 1999, <br />(the day of the computer conversion). She said 1999 revenues for real estate recordings <br />through August 13th is $38,211 higher than the 3-year average for the same months during <br />1996, 1997, and 1998. She hopes to gain another month on the backlog in the next 30-45 days <br />and anticipates that recorded documents will be returned in 30 days by the end of the year. <br />Mrs. Quick said she and Mr. Wieland talked with Mrs. Kensrud earlier today about the goal of <br />30 days or less by the end of this year and expressed their support for attaining that goal. <br /> <br />14. VOUCHERS, Approved <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Meyer moved and Mr. Koenig seconded to approve Voucher No. <br />131,074 through No. 131,573. On roll call vote, motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />15. INFORMATION SERVICES DIRECTOR; JAIL TRANSITION; MEETING UPDATE; STATE'S <br />ATTORNEY CONVENTION; BUDGETS; BONANZAVILLE PARADE, , Committee reports <br />Mrs. Johnson reported that Robert Holmbeck began employment today with Cass County <br />government as Information Services Director. She said Glenn Ellingsberg did an admirable job <br />as interim director, and the Board was in agreement. Mrs. Johnson also reported on transition <br />planning for the jail project. <br />
