Commission Minutes--August 16, 1999 2026

Commissioners reported on meetings they have attended and upcoming committee meetings.

Mr. Meyer reported on the jail design and development seminar which he attended in Longmont,
Colorado, last week. The National Institute of Corrections (NIC) conducted the seminar. He
said everything the county has done so far has been done correctly.

Mr. Burdick reported that he attended the State convention of North Dakota State's Attorneys,
which was held in Fargo last week.

The County Auditor said budget meetings are continuing, and he commended the Commission
for adopting a budget goal at the meeting earlier today.

Mrs. Quick and Mr. Meyer rode in the Bonanzaville Pioneer Days Parade last Sunday,
representing the County Board of Commissioners.

16. BUDGET, Citizen comments
Jeannette Stanton, Fargo, had some questions about the county budget for the year 2000. She
first asked about the welfare fraud unit, and Commissioners responded that it was a State
program and the State Legislature chose not to fund it after June 30th of this year. Her other
comment was on the proposed increase in Commissioners' salaries from $10,000 annually to
a preliminary budget figure of $15,000. She said that is too large of an increase. Mr. Wieland
said the increase may be in the neighborhood of 35% when the budget is adopted. He said
Commissioners have not had a pay raise for about 10 years, and he said Mrs. Stanton made
the motion herself to increase Commissioners' salaries while she served on this Board. Mrs.
Quick said county residents she has talked to think the salary is low for the amount of time that
is involved. Mr. Meyer said he does not mind donating some of his time, however,
Commissioners are not reimbursed for out-of-pocket expenses, such as travel within the county
and cellular telephone calls.

17.
