<br />Commission Minutes--December 21, 1998 1913 <br /> <br />15. JAIL UPDATE, Report by County Coordinator/Jail Proiect Coordinator <br />Bonnie Johnson, County Coordinator and Jail Project Coordinator, reported on the operations, <br />programming and site selection committee meetings held in the past month. She also said a <br />criminal justice round table meeting was held to discuss policies affecting incarceration, as well <br />as ways to relieve overcrowding in the jail. She discussed three legislative bills being proposed <br />that would assist in the jail project and said a sponsor was found for the bills. <br /> <br />16. RED RIVER BRIDGE CORRIDOR PROPOSAL, Opposition expressed by Vern Kepler <br />Mr. Vern Kepler was present to discuss his opposition to a Red River Bridge Corridor proposed <br />at 76th Avenue South. He feels the proposed corridor will be unsafe for children and will destroy <br />their community. He said that little or no impact would be felt if 70th Avenue South was <br />considered as a future corridor. <br /> <br />Mr. Berndt said Cass and Clay County Planning Commissions have not made any final <br />recommendations in regard to the Red River Bridge Corridor study. He gave a brief history on <br />the long-range highway plan and corridor preservation. He encouraged the County Commission <br />to gather additional information before reaching any conclusions involving the Red River Bridge <br />Corridor study. <br /> <br />17. VOUCHERS, Approved <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Quick moved and Mr. Koenig seconded to approve Voucher No. <br />122,573 through No. 123,284. On roll call vote, motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />18. MEETING UPDATES; CASS/CLA Y JOINT MEETING; INSURANCE REIMBURSEMENT; <br />FEDERAL BEEF CLOSURE: CASSEL TON POLICE SERVICES: FOLLOW-UP ELECTION <br />MEETING: WELFARE FRAUD PROGRAM. Committee reports <br />All commissioners reported on various meetings attended since the last Commission meeting. <br /> <br />Mrs. Johnson said a Cass and Clay County Commission joint meeting needs to be held and <br />Cass County is the host this time. Mr. Wieland asked Mrs. Johnson to contact Mr. Vijay Sethi <br />from Clay County to arrange a date for the meeting. <br /> <br />Mrs. Johnson said the county received an insurance reimbursement check in the amount of <br />$11,062.60 for sewage backup in the Annex basement. <br /> <br />Mr. Wieland expressed his concerns about Federal Beef Processors closing and the 285 <br />employees who will lose their jobs. <br /> <br />Mr. Meyer said the county may help provide police services to the City of Casselton until a new <br />police officer is hired. <br /> <br />Mr. Montplaisir said a follow-up election meeting was held with several election inspectors for <br />suggestions on how to improve the election process. Also discussed was proposed legislation <br />regarding elections and the growing population in some south Fargo precincts. <br />
