TAX EQUALIZATION BOARD, Convened for 1998 <br />The 1998 Cass County Board of Tax Equalization convened at this time. Frank Klein, Director <br />of Equalization, provided a letter dated May 22, 1998, recommending an increase in residential <br />lot and structure values in a number of cities and townships in Cass County. He said each city <br />and township has been notified of his intention to recommend these increases. <br /> <br />Mr. Klein said the 1998 estimated total net taxable valuation of Cass County is $214,563,807.00, <br />which is a 5.7% increase over last year. <br /> <br />Mrs. Schneider announced the equalization of cities at this time and asked if anyone was present <br />to address the County Board of Equalization. No one asked to speak to the board at this time. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Wieland moved and Mr. Koenig seconded that the city residential <br />lot and structure values be increased in the amounts listed below, as <br />recommended by Mr. Klein: On roll call vote, motion carried <br />unanimously. <br />City <br />Casselton <br />Kindred <br />Amenia <br />Argusville <br />Grandin <br />Horace <br />Hunter <br />Leonard <br />Tower City <br />Harwood <br />Oxbow <br /> <br />Amount of Increase <br />5% <br />9% <br />10% <br />7% <br />5% <br />2% <br />2% <br />5% <br />10% <br />6% <br />5% <br /> <br />Mr. Klein also provided a letter dated May 29, 1998, containing three individual appeals to the <br />County Board of Equalization. One of those appeals pertains to the equalization of cities. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Quick moved and Mr. Meyer seconded that the Timothy Halverson <br />valuation be set at $113,300, as recommended by the Frontier City <br />Assessor and the Director of Equalization. On roll call vote, motion <br />carried unanimously. <br /> <br />At this time, Mrs. Schneider asked for any additional comments on the equalization of cities. <br />Hearing none, the board proceeded with the equalization of townships. <br /> <br />Mr. Klein referred back to his letter of May 22, 1998, again stating that he notified all affected <br />township clerks and all of the township assessors of the proposed changes. <br /> <br />Albert Frisinger, who resides in Stanley Township, asked about the valuation increase of 8% for <br />Stanley Township, and Mr. Klein provided some history on Stanley Township values. <br />
