On roll call vote, motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />ELECTION, Appointment of ins.~ectors MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Ness moved and Mr. Wieland seconded to approve 1996 election <br /> inspectors according to list provided by the County Auditor's Office. <br /> On roll call vote, motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />STATE'S ATTORNEY, Payment of legal fees MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Ness moved and Mr. Wieland seconded to approve payment of legal <br /> fees as outlined by the State's Attorney, per letter dated May 7, 1996, in <br /> the amount of $6,802.04 from Cass County contingency funds; with the <br /> unpaid balance at the Ohnstad Twichell Law Firm being paid directly to <br /> them and any costs incurred by the employee to be reimbursed directly. <br /> On roll call vote, motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />SHEA SITE LISTING, Historic Register <br />Commissioners were given an opportunity to review printed information provided by Roger Shea <br />from Michael Michlovic, Moorhead State University Anthropology Department, and from the State <br />Historical Society of North Dakota on the Shea Site near Embden, ND. The property will be <br />considered for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places by the State Historic <br />Preservation Review Board at their meeting scheduled for June 6, 1996, in the Bismarck Veterans <br />Memorial Library, Bismarck, ND. <br /> <br />Mr. Ness said he had an opportunity to view a slide presentation of the Shea Site, which is a <br />fortified village in southeastern North Dakota that dates to A.D. 1498, and he believes it should <br />be preserved as much as possible. Mr. VVieland said the county has had some difficulties in the <br />past with national registry designations, and he believes the property will be listed regardless of <br />the county's position. <br /> MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Wieland moved and Mrs. Schneider seconded that the Cass County <br /> Commission takes no position on consideration of the Shea Site for <br /> nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. On roll call <br /> vote, the motion carried with four members voting "Aye" and Mr. Ness <br /> opposing. <br /> <br />STATE'S ATTORNEY, Budget increase for domestic violence prosecutor <br />John Goff, State's Attorney, wrote letters to the Commission dated May 7 and May 16, 1996, <br />requesting a budget increase of $4,450, which represents a 25% local match of grant funds <br />awarded to his office for a domestic violence prosecutor. The Cass County State's Attorney's <br />Office was awarded $14,000 for the employment of an Assistant State's Attorney for the balance <br />of 1996 beginning August 1, 1996 for exclusive use as a domestic violence prosecutor. <br />Approximately $95,000 per year for four years has been set aside specifically for prosecutors in <br />North Dakota dedicated for violence against women as part of the Federal Crime Bill, according <br />to the State's Attorney. <br /> <br /> <br />
