Minutes--October 23, 1995 1402 <br /> <br />10. <br /> <br />11. <br /> <br />SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, Vehicle purchases <br />Jim Thoreson, Chief Deputy in the Sheriff's Department, appeared before the Commission with <br />state bid tabulations for 1996 vehicles. He requested permission to purchase six Ford Crown <br />Victorias at a cost of $19,077 each; three Dodge Intrepids at a cost of $13,233.90 each; and one <br />Dodge Grand Caravan at a cost of $16,848.95; for a total vehicle purchase of $171,008. <br /> MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Wieland moved and Mrs. Toussaint seconded to approve bids as <br /> outlined and authorize the Sheriff's Department to purchase vehicles <br /> from the 1996 budget in the amount of $171,008. On roll call vote, <br /> motion carried unanimously. County Auditor Michael Montplaisir <br /> asked Mr. Thoreson to have the Auditor's Office prepare purchase <br /> orders for the chairman's signature today. <br /> <br />REED TOWNSHIP, Brid~le repair between Sections 7-18 <br />In a memorandum to Commissioners dated October 13, 1995, County Engineer Keith Berndt <br />recommended proceeding with short-term repairs in the amount of $21,000 on the bridge <br />located between Sections 7-18, Reed Township. Mr. Ness suggested obtaining written <br />agreement from the Reed Township Board of Supervisors that they will upgrade the alternate <br />route, as discussed at the last Commission meeting. MOTION, passed <br /> Mrs. Toussaint moved and Mrs. Schneider seconded to authorize the <br /> County Engineer to proceed with short-term repairs to the bridge <br /> between Sections 7-18, Reed Township; subject to a written <br /> agreement that Reed Township will improve the alternate route next <br /> spring. On roll call vote, motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />ROAD DEPARTMENT, County Road 17 and Wall Avenue in Horace <br />In a memorandum to Commissioners dated October 12, 1995, Mr. Berndt provided information <br />and recommendations for a four-way stop at the intersection of County Road 17 and Wall <br />Avenue in Horace. Additional correspondence has recently been received from the Horace City <br />Council, Horace Park Board, West Fargo Public School District and the Cass County Sheriff's <br />Department requesting installation of a four-way stop at this location for safety reasons due to <br />a large amount of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The Horace Elementary School is located <br />near this intersection. <br /> <br />Mr. Berndt said the Fargo-Moorhead Metropolitan Council .of Governments conducted a study <br />of the Horace school crossing area and concluded that a four-way stop is warranted because <br />of the accident history in the past two years. MOTION, passed <br /> Mrs. Toussaint moved and Mrs. Schneider seconded to authorize the <br /> County Engineer to proceed with installation of a 4-way stop, traffic <br /> beacon, and crosswalks at the intersection of Cass County 17 and <br /> Wall Avenue in Horace; with the City of Horace paying the expense for <br /> the electricity that will be needed at this location. On roll call vote, <br /> motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br /> <br />
