Minutes--October 3, 1994 1258 <br /> <br />Mr. Ness publicly thanked Mike Argall, Cass County Sheriff's Deputy, <br />who received the necessary training to teach the defensive driving <br />course for Cass County employees. Mrs. Johnson invited Mr. Argall to <br />today's meeting but he was unable to attend. Mr. Risher asked her to <br />write a letter of thanks to Mr. Argall from the Commission. <br /> <br />VOUCHERS, Approved <br />Mr. Wieland reviewed bills this month and commented on the cost of a <br />seminar in Boston amounting to $1,742, which he thinks is excessive. <br />He questioned the difference in gravel prices, and Mrs. Toussaint said <br />she talked to the county engineer about gravel purchases and was told <br />one of the pits closed so they had to pay a higher price after that. <br /> MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Wieland moved and Mrs. Toussaint seconded to approve <br /> Vouchers No. 66,552 through No. 67,675. On roll call vote, <br /> motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />CHILD SUPPORT ENFORCEMENT AUDIT, Committee report <br />Bonnie Johnson worked with Kathleen Ziegelmann, Regional Child Support <br />Enforcement Director, drafting a letter concerning a recent audit of <br />the child support enforcement program. MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Ness moved and Mr. Wieland seconded that Chairman Steve <br /> Risher be authorized to sign a letter on behalf of the <br /> county commission to Robert Peterson, State Auditor, with <br /> specific concerns about the incentive formula and the state <br /> computer system. Motion carried· <br /> <br />COMMISSION/DEPARTMENT HEAD JOINT MEETING; COURTHOUSE MAIN ENTRANCE <br />REMODELING; NORTH DAKOTA ASSOCIATION OF COUNTIES CONVENTION <br />RESOLUTIONS; LAWSUIT WON FOR BACK TAXES; NORTH DAKOTA PUBLIC EMPLOYEES <br />RETIREMENT SYSTEM BENEFIT RECOMMENDATION, Committee reports <br />Commissioners suggested the date of November 21st for a joint meeting <br />with county department heads to discuss items of mutual concern. <br /> <br />Mrs. Johnson talked with the Commission about the response received <br />today from James E. Sperry, Superintendent of the State Historical <br />Society of North Dakota, concerning remodeling the Cass County <br />Courthouse main entrance to improve accessibility and provide total <br />courthouse security. If Cass County plans to proceed with their <br />original proposal, Mr. Sperry said in his letter that it will <br />jeopardize the property's status on the State Historic Sites Registry. <br /> <br />Mrs. Johnson has been in contact with the Fargo Historic Preservation <br />Society, and several commissioners agreed to meet with that group on <br />October 26th at 3:30 PM in the Fargo City Planning conference room. <br />Commissioners will also attend the October 28th meeting of the State <br />Historical Board in the North Dakota Heritage Center at Bismarck to <br />discuss the proposed remodeling. <br /> <br />Mrs. Johnson provided copies of twelve resolutions proposed by Cass <br />County for consideration at next week's North Dakota Association of <br />Counties and County Commissioners convention in Fargo. She said the <br />resolution concerning county superintendent of schools will be the <br />most controversial one. <br /> <br /> <br />
