DATA PROCESSING, Contract with SYNON Mike Steiner, Data Processing Coordinator, requested approval of a contract with SYNON, which he said will allow data processing staff to increase their level of service to county departments. In a memo to the commission dated June ll, 1993, Mr. Steiner said he would not have to fill a current vacant position now or in the near future if the county purchases SYNON. Mr. Steiner intended to include this item in the 1994 data processing budget, but he was informed that the purchase price is $24,000 if a contract is signed by June 30, 1993, because it is currently a private company but will not remain that way. Effective January 1, 1994, he said the purchase price will be $64,000. Mr. Risher asked if the company is financially solvent. will request financial information for him to review. Mr. Steiner Mrs. Toussaint asked about training, and Mr. Steiner said he plans to send two programmers to off-site training near Chicago, and he proposes paying travel and expenses to bring someone to Cass County for on-site training. He will bring back the out-of-state travel request at a later time. He said he has money in this year's budget from the software line item because of a software package that was budgeted in 1993 but was purchased with 1992 funds. MOTION, passed Mr. Eckert moved and Mr. Wieland seconded to authorize the Cass County Commission Chairman to sign the SYNON Service Product and License Agreements, as requested by Mike Steiner, unless financial information is negative. On roll call vote, motion carried unanimously. COURTHOUSE/JUVENILE PARKING LOT, Committee report County Engineer Keith Berndt said the parking lot east of the courthouse should be open to traffic about the middle of next week. The contractor will then begin improvements at the Juvenile Justice Center parking lot, but the entire lot does not have to be closed while they are working there. Mr. Berndt suggested that the commission consider spending $3,000- $4,000 to replace existing curbs on the street along the north side of the parking lot and some on the south side, which are in poor condition. Also, he suggested consideration of a water line in the boulevard for future use, and he estimated that cost at $2,500. MOTION, passed Mr. Risher moved and Mr. Wieland seconded to approve up to $6,000 for curb and gutter replacement and a water line in conjunction with improvements to the parking lot east of the Courthouse, funds to be paid from county contingency. On roll call vote, motion carried unanimously.
