Minutes--October 1, 1992 930 <br /> <br />14. <br /> <br />SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS/PLANNING DEPARTMENT, Secretary's position <br />terminated at the end of 1992 MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Shannon moved and Mrs. Toussaint seconded to terminate <br /> the position of secretary shared by County Superintendent <br /> of Schools and by the County Planning Department at the end <br /> of the 1992 budget. On roll call vote, motion carried <br /> unanimously. <br /> <br />15. <br /> <br />VECTOR AND WEED CONTROL, Reductions in equipment MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Shannon moved and Mrs. Toussaint seconded to remove <br /> $10,000 for a new sprayer from the Vector Control budget <br /> and to remove $5,000 for Weed Control equipment. On roll <br /> call vote, motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />16. <br /> <br />VECTOR AND WEED CONTROL, Budget reductions <br />After talking with the State's Attorney, Mr. Shannon said the county <br />commission i's clearly responsible for the budget and tax levies for <br />Vector and Weed Control. MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Shannon moved and Mrs. Toussaint seconded to reduce the <br /> Vector Control budget by $20,000 and to reduce the Weed <br /> Control budget by $11,000 for 1993. <br /> Discussion: <br /> Mr. Shannon said arrangements need to be worked out in the <br /> following months on how those programs will operate but he <br /> fully expects they will continue to function. Mr. Eckert <br /> said he could not support this without specifics, and Mr. <br /> Shannon asked for his suggestions. Mr. Wieland asked about <br /> contractual obligations. Motion carried on roll call vote <br /> with three members voting "Aye," Mr. Wieland and Mr. Eckert <br /> opposing. <br /> <br />17. <br /> <br />SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, Budget for staff, training, building at fair- <br />grounds <br />Mr. Shannon said the Sheriff talked about the need for adding a staff <br />person, but rather than adding staff, Mr. Shannon suggested a <br />reduction in services of a staff person that Cass County has been <br />volunteering to the federal government--Investigator Tony Krogh. Mr. <br />Shannon suggested that Mr. Krogh be brought back to the county labor <br />pool allowing the Sheriff to move staff around in order to provide <br />security functions. <br /> MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Shannon moved and Mrs. Toussaint seconded to reduce the <br /> Sheriff's Department budget by $29,870. <br /> Discussion: <br /> Sheriff Rudnick said an additional staff position was <br /> requested prior to the Courthouse security issue, and he <br /> said the courts are demanding additional security. He said <br /> the county is currently paying 28% of this investigator's <br /> salary. Mr. Wieland said the savings is actually about <br /> $9,000. At the call for the question and on roll call <br /> vote, the motion carried with three members voting "Aye," <br /> Mr. Eckert and Mr. Wieland opposing. <br /> <br /> <br />
