In terms of cost to the County, he said he
used the figure of 20 cents per mile times the number of miles from
the deputy's residence to the courthouse versus what it would cost in
extra time if the deputies leave the vehicles at the Courthouse, He
estimated that it would cost the County $18,000 more in deputies'
time than what it is actually costing in mileage for personal use if
the vehicles were left at the Courthouse.

Mr. Wieland said the Sheriff's vehicle use policy requires constant
review, as does the Sheriff's Department personnel policy manual
which is somewhat different from the County's because of dealing with
law enforcement. Mr. Wieland encouraged the Sheriff to provide Commissioners
with a figure on the cost of the program and to obtain a contract to
be reviewed by the States Attorney.

SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, Dive rescue team
Sheriff Rudnick recommended tabling his proposal for a volunteer
group through his department to provide trained divers to assist
governmental agencies in underwater search and recovery of drowning
victims, evidence, or other water related services. He said the
Personnel Assistant questioned whether rescue workers could volunteer
their time, and Mr. Rudnick is investigating this further.

EMERGENCY 911, payment to independent phone companies delayed
MOTION, passed
Upon the recommendation of Glenn Ellingsberg, Mr. Eckert
moved and Mrs. Toussaint seconded to table the payment of
bills from independent telephone companies for installation
of emergency 911 services until December 31, 1990, to be
extended further if necessary.
