Comm. Hinutes--Oct. 17, 1989 368

21. HISTORICAL SOCIETY,
George Poulson appeared on behalf of the Board of Directors of
Bonanzaville in the absence of the president, Darrol Schroeder. He
said he had some questions about the nine-member committee which the
County Commission suggested in a letter to the president and to a
past president, Lila Hutchinson, dated October 3, 1989.

Hr. Shannon asked Hr. Poulson tO provide his questions in writing to
give the Commission time to study them.

Mr. Poulson said the Historical Society Board is capable of meeting
and solving the problems posed in the County's letter without
appointing another committee. He requested an ongoing dialogue
between the Commission and the Historical Society Board of Directors.

Mr. Eckert said some of the Commission's concerns would be addressed
if the Historical Society Board would follow their by-laws, one
specific item being the adoption of a long-range plan to be updated
annually.

Concerning a long-range plan, Hr. Poulson said the Board is limited
by the space that Bonanzaville has. He said their attorney, Lowell
Lundberg, is in the process of writing new by-laws.

Mr. Poulson read a letter to th~ Board of Directors from the Bonanza
Belles indicating one of their long-term goals is to add a Board
meeting room and a kitchen on the west side of the museum.

Mr. Eckert asked Mr. Poulson if the Board of Directors has selected
members to serve on the committee suggested by the County Commission,
and he said they have not. He said if there is to be a committee,
they request that it be members of the Historical Society Board of
Directors.

Mr. Wieland said the intent of the committee is to discuss problems
that exist within the membership of the Historical Society. He said
a dialogue should be between the opposing sides and possibly two
Commissioners as mediators.

Pam Burkhardt, a member of the Historical Society, recommended that
the Commission consider a museum professional as an advisor to the
committee. She suggested someone from the State Historical Society,
or ask them to recommend someone in the area to answer questions that
this committee cannot answer.

Jeannette Stanton said she is concerned about some hazards at
Bonanzaville. Mr. Eckert said those concerns should be addressed by
the Historical Society Board.

Lila Hutchinson submitted the names of Arnie Pauls, Duane Durr and
herself to represent one side. She thought the Historical Society
Board of Directors had selected their three people to serve on this
committee.
