Comm. Hinutes--May 2, 1989 245 <br /> <br />17. ROAD DEPARTMENT, Agenda information requested prior to meetin~ <br />For future County Commission agendas, Hr. Shannon asked Don Richards <br />to provide supportive information in advance to the Commission <br />Secretary. <br /> <br />18. ETHANOL BLEND FUEL, To be used in county vehicles <br />Mr. Wieland proposed to use ethanol blend fuel in County vehicles <br />because he felt it is in the best interests of the environment and <br />the farm community. However, on the down side, he stated that there <br />is an exemption from the Highway Trust Fund when using ethanol-blend <br />fuel. Mr. Sondrall questioned how much money will be lost, but the <br />County Engineer did not expect it to affect the Trust Fund very much. <br /> <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Wieland moved and Mrs. Toussaint seconded that Cass <br />County use ethanol-blend fuel in County vehicles beginning <br />at the earliest possible convenience to the affected <br />departments, but no later than July 1, 1989. Mr. Shannon <br />stated that he respected Mr. Wieland's interest in <br />advocating the use of agricultural fuels but questioned <br />using ethanol without concern for protecting the County <br />budget should ethanol not continue to be cost competitive. <br />On roll call vote, the motion carried with four members <br />voting "Aye", Hr. Shannon opposing. <br /> <br />19. CHEMICAL AMNESTY DAY, Promoted by community Health center <br /> MOTION, passed <br /> Upon the recommendation of Goodwin Hoff, Supervisor of <br /> Environmental Health Services, Fargo Community Health <br /> Center, Hr. Sondrall moved and Mrs. Toussaint seconded that <br /> $2,500 from the existing Community Health Center budget, <br /> that was not previously designated as such, be used for a <br /> chemical amnesty day to be held in Cass County in July or <br /> September. On roll call vote, the motion carried <br /> unanimously. <br /> <br />20. WEED CONTROL BOARD, ~um~er employees MOTION, passed <br /> Upon the request of Wayne Colberg, Weed Control Officer, <br /> Mr. Sondrall moved and Mrs. Toussaint seconded to grant <br /> approval for summer employees as outlined by Wayne Colberg <br /> with the addition of one employee at $7.00/hour, the money <br /> being allocated in their budget; this being sublect to his <br /> discussion with Sandra Brumfield, Personnel Assistant. On <br /> roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />21. VECTOR CONTROL DISTRICT, Purchase of vehicles MOTION, passed <br /> Upon the request of Joel Young, Director of the Cass County <br /> Vector Control District, Mr. Sondral] moved and Hr. Shannon <br /> seconded that the Vector Control District be authorized to <br /> purchase five vehicles for up to $5,000.00 each, this <br /> dollar expenditure being outlined in their 1989 budget.
