Harwood, Frank Klein
stated that the Barnes Township Board of Supervisors approved the
abatements as requested for the reason that the property was assessed
and taxed as commercial land but is used as agricultural land.
Mr. Frank Klein concurred with the township and the applicant.
Mrs. Stanton moved and Mr. Larson seconded to approve Abatement #3871
and #3872 for Glory L. Harwood as requested for 1986 and 1987, and to
reduce the valuation on one parcel from $29,600 to $4,329 and from
$369,500 to $67,200 on the second parcel. On roll call vote, the
motion carried unanimously.

Mr. Robert Claus requested an abatement for the year 1988 on the
former Post Office building in Tower City, which was valued at
$20,000. He purchased the property for $1,000 and feels this is the
fair market value. Frank Klein stated that the Tower City Commission
recommended that the valuation be $7,500. Upon the recommendation of
Mr. Klein and Robert Claus being in agreement, Mr. Larson moved and
Mrs. Stanton seconded to reduce the value from $20,000 to $4,500 for
the year 1988. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously.

Mr. Wieland moved and Mrs. Stanton seconded to accept with
appreciation and file a petition from the Chaffee community thanking
the County Commission and the County Road Department for the paving
of the road from Chaffee to Highway 18 and from Chaffee to the
Wheatland Interstate 94 interchange. A date was set for November 15th.

An item was placed on today's Commission agenda about 30 days
ago concerning the future of the Sheriff's former residence.
Commissioners Stanton and Wieland stated that they are not prepared
to discuss it today, and Mr. Wieland suggested not adding it to the
agenda again until receiving a formal request. Nancy Henning was
present representing the Fargo Heritage Society, and she stated that
they are concerned that the building might be demolished without
specific plans for the use of the property. Mrs. Stanton asked that
the President of the Fargo Heritage Society be formally notified when
this item is on the Commission agenda again.

Mr. Wieland moved and Mr. Sondrall seconded that Cass County
Court be authorized to hire staff replacement for Denise McCollum as
Probate/Traffic Clerk in Pay Grade 3. Motion carried.

Mrs. Stanton was concerned that the Personnel Department be
contacted to be sure that County department heads are following the
proper personnel procedures when hiring staff replacements.
Mr. Wieland suggested notifying Personnel Technician Sandra Brumfield
when a staff replacement is approved, and she should contact the
department head involved.
