91

people in Harwood, Reile's Acres, and North River. Nr. Eckert
volunteered to contact people in Tower City and Gardner for their
recommendations. The motion to reappoint the three persons
recommended so far voted upon and carried unanimously.

For the County Weed Control Board, Mrs. Stanton moved and
Mr. Larson seconded that Irvin Dietrich of Fargo and John Hoag of
Hunter be reappointed. Motion carried unanimously.

For the Cemeteries
Mr. Sondra11 seconded that
carried unanimously.

Authority, Mrs. Stanton moved and
Alton Johnson be reappointed. Motion

Don Richards, County Engineer, reported on plans to upgrade a
two-mile section of County Road 31. Projected costs are $60,000 a
mile for earthwork and part of the base, $162,000 a mile for
blacktop. ($444,000 in total for the two miles.) $120,000 was
already authorized to be spent this year. Russ Stubbs from Encore
Realty was present to inform the board that residents in the area
served by the road are willing to pay voluntarily towards upgrading
of the road, primarily McCormick Development, the developer of
Highland Park, who has pledged $50,000. A majority of residents in
Highland Park, Stockman's Addition, and North River are also willing
to pay each $367. Approximately $68,000 towards the road will thus
come from private funds.

Mr. Larson discussed making a special district of this area,
however, Mr. Wieland pointed out that time for this is prohibitive,
and by going ahead with it now the County gets this help with
funding. It would normally be done next year. Mr. Richards pointed
out that McCormick Development and the residents have been made aware
that completion is not a certainty this year, being dependent on good
weather conditions, and they are still agreeable. Mr. Larson moved
that upon the States Attorney's approval of this type of funding and
deposit of the funds into escrow, that construction of the road and
blacktopping to an amount of $440,000 with a contribution from
McCormick Development and residents to be escrowed. Upon question
from Mr. Sondrall, Mr. Richards informed the board that the detour
will be a township road one mile to the West. On roll call vote, the
motion carried unanimously. Don Richards was directed to coordinate
with States Attorney Hoy and the Commission members on the financing
details.

In other road work, the bridge south of Durbin was nearly
finished, to be opened in a month. Asphalt work is proceeding well.
They are working on their fourth bridge repair. Mrs. Stanton
inquired about responses from the two townships where bridges had
been closed, but there have been none received by the Road
Department.

The nominees for the County Judge vacancy which have been named
by the Judicial Nominating Committee are Gary S. Gronneberg, Larry F.
Nordick, Frank L. Racek, and Donald H. Shoop. Mr. Larson moved that
this item be put on the agenda for a final decision two weeks from
today. Mrs. Stanton seconded. Mr. Wieland informed the Board that
he is going to contact each candidate and to talk to the chairman of
the Judicial Nominating Committee. Upon inquiry by Mr. Sondrall, it
