Notes can be passed under the doors between the housing units -- the doors ar.e not equipped with pass proof thresholds. Because the male and female inmates are always trying to have unauthorized contact, it is difficult to operate this post with only one officer -- inmates can get away with too much with only one officer present. This situation will resolve itself when males and females are no longer housed in the same pod. Sigma Pod, the pod used for problem inmates and where the extensive damage was done to the windows, was clean, quiet, and orderly. Pod staff noted that most of the really destructive inmates have left the facility -- there are still some problems but much less than before. According to staff there are very few problems -- "now and then see some graffiti or minor damage." According to staff they have been no problems with inmates plugging toilets or other similar types of vandalism. · There are problems surrounding the operation of the staff workstation in Main Male Housing. When the officer leaves the workstation to do periodic cell checks, cell inspections, or cell searches, inmates have been having unauthorized access to the workstation and the cabinets behind the workstation under the window in . front of the recreation area. Stolen items from locked drawers at the workstation have been found during inmate cell searches. 7
