Continue helping staff sharpen their inmate supervision <br />skills through training, coaching, and discussion of <br />specific supervision problems. The Training Officer should <br />asses inmate supervision problems and prepare training <br />modules to address the problems. Supervisors should <br />spend as much time as possible working with staff on <br />post to find solutions to specific inmate behavior <br />problems. <br /> <br />Evaluate the locking mechanisms on the paper pas~throughs <br />in the attorney visiting booths to mitigate the possibility of <br />breaking the lock and the introduction of contraban~d via the <br />paper passthrough. :[n the meantime, s~aff should be directed <br />to keep the door into the inmate side of attorney visitin-g <br />locked as well as the passthrough. '[he visiting area should <br />be checked each time before use to ensure the attorney <br />visiting booths and passthroughs are secure. <br /> <br />Continue evaluating the problem with unauthorized a~ess <br />by inmates to the Hain Hale Housing staffworkstation for <br />possible modification to mitigate the problem. :In the <br />meantime, the measures previously discussed should be <br />used. <br /> <br />Complete a new staffing plan as part of the upcoming <br />budget process. An excellent resource for completing a <br />new staffing plan is Staffing Analysis Workbook for Jails, <br />2nd Edition written by Dennis Liebert and Rod Hiller (see <br />attachment). <br /> <br />Undertake jail staff re-classification at this time in <br />preparation for the upcoming budget process. Jail line <br />staff have just as difficult a job to do as a Deputy Sheriff <br />-- they have to make just as many decisions and have <br />to have equal knowledge and skills to be effective. It is <br />important for morale of jail staff that there be equity in <br />status and pay. ]:f jail staff positions are upgraded, there <br />would be a budget impact. <br /> <br />Prepare the annual training plan as part of the upcoming <br />budget process. Training is not free. ]:t is very costly in <br />terms of staff time while attending training, training staff <br />time, and training materials.
