REGULAR MEETING OF CASS COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />OCTOBER 14, 1986 <br />Chairman Alon Wieland called the meeting to order with all members <br />present as follows: Jeannette Stanton, Don Eckert, Oscar Sondrall, <br />Alon Wieland and Ray Larson. <br />Mr. Larson moved and Mrs. Stanton seconded that the minutes of <br />the previous meeting be approved as written. Motion carried. <br />The Board continued discussion of County Court Judges <br />absenteeism. The Commission received a written response from Judges <br />Donald Cooke and Cynthia Rothe, and a written response from Cynthia <br />Rothe on her own behalf. Mrs. Stanton stated that the letter from <br />Judge Rothe clearly explains her absentee record, but the Commission <br />did not receive the same type of response from Judge Cooke. The other <br />Commissioners were in agreement that Judge Rothe's response was <br />satisfactory and answered all of their questions, and they are very <br />satisfied with her performance as reflected in public comments which <br />some have received. Mr. Sondrall asked about the appointment of Judge <br />Cooke as the Administrative Judge, and the Commission will this further <br />next week. <br />Mrs. Stanton moved and Mr. Larson seconded that the Chairman <br />be authorized to write a letter to County Court Judge Donald Cooke <br />asking for further information concerning an illness mentioned in <br />his letter October 13, 1986, and for a further explanation of the <br />amount of time spent on a committee of the National Association of <br />Counties. Motion carried. <br />Mrs. Stanton moved and Mr. Eckert seconded to receive with regrets <br />and file the letter of resignation from County Planner Becky Balk, <br />effective October 24, 1986; and to go on record commending her for <br />a job well done. Motion carried. <br />Upon the recommendation of the County Planning Commission, Mr. <br />Eckert moved and Mrs. Stanton seconded to hire Mr. Gerald McCullough <br />as Cass County Planner to replace Becky Balk, according to the terms <br />and conditions as set forth by the County Planning Commission. On <br />roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br />A memo was received from County Auditor Ordelle Brua on the status <br />of the Health Insurance account. Mrs. Stanton moved and Mr. Sondrall <br />seconded that the County continue payroll deductions for health <br />insurance coverage at the rate of $2.00 for a single policy, $5.00 <br />for a single with dependents and $10.00 for a family policy for the <br />next six month period through March, 1987. On roll call vote, the <br />motion carried unanimously. <br />County Engineer Don Richards gave an update on projects nearing <br />completion. Discussion was held regarding a meeting last week with <br />Cass County Electric Cooperative on receiving notification of road <br />projects.
