<br />Commission Minutes--May 20, 2002 2447 <br /> <br />In addition, Mr. Montplaisir is recommending that the chairman be authorized to sign an <br />,-- agreement whereby the North Dakota Association of Counties would provide 10 hours of <br />technical support each week from June 1, 2002 through the end of December, 2002, to <br />assist county staff in trouble-shooting and correcting some ongoing computer and network <br />problems. <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />16. <br /> <br />,-- <br /> <br />Mr. Schmaltz commented on the technology study being conducted by the NDACo, and his <br />scope of services in Cass County government. He provided two graphs showing the <br />number of different operating systems and the difference in speed of all the computers in <br />the county system. He estimated that 38% of the current work station inventory should be <br />replaced and another 38% could be upgraded with a new operating system. Mr. Schmaltz <br />anticipates the NDACo's study will be completed in the next 2-3 weeks. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Meyer moved and Mrs. Schneider seconded to authorize the chairman <br />to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the North Dakota <br />Association of Counties to install the computers in the new jail facility, <br />with the funding to come from the Jail Construction Fund. On roll call <br />vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Meyer moved and Mrs. Schneider seconded to authorize the <br />chairman to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the North Dakota <br />Association of Counties to provide 10 hours of technical support weekly <br />for the period of June 1, 2002 through December 31, 2002 at a cost of $53 <br />per hour, with the costs to come from the consulting line item in the <br />Information Services budget. On roll call vote, the motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />VETERANS SERVICE OFFICE, Budaet adiustment for new hire trainina <br />Jim Brent, Veterans Service Officer, introduced Mike Vandrovec as a new hire to replace <br />Dan McCarthy, who terminated employment as of April 30, 2002. Mr. Brent is requesting a <br />budget adjustment so Mr. Vandrovec could begin work as a county employee as early as <br />tomorrow in order to be trained in his new job by Beth Fischer, who is retiring as of June 30, <br />2002. Mr. Brent would like to start another new hire, Lori Bailes, on May 28th for training <br />purposes also. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Schneider moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to approve the Veterans <br />Service Office budget adjustment in the amount of approximately $5,500 <br />for two newly hired employees to begin their employment for training <br />purposes before the remaining employee, Beth Fischer, retires. Mike <br />Vandrovec will begin county employment on May 21, 2002, and Lori <br />Bailes will begin county employment on May 28, 2002. Funds for the <br />budget adjustment shall come from the Veterans Service Office reserve <br />funds. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />17. <br /> <br />MOTOR POOL REPLACEMENT, Sale of two vehicles/replace with one other <br />Mr. Montplaisir informed the board that one of the county's motor pool vehicles, a 1994 <br />Dodge Spirit, was involved in an accident on county property on May 2nd. He would like <br />authorization to dispose of that vehicle because the repairs would be too costly and to <br />dispose of another 1994 Dodge Spirit with 95,000 miles on it. <br />
