PERSONNEL OVERVIEW COMMITTEE, Ratify actions of Januarv 7th concernina Davin9 <br />Sheriff's de Duties above the minimum and restructurina two Social Services Dositions <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Schneider moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to ratify Personnel <br />Overview Committee action of January 7, 2002, concerning the <br />request for consideration to hire above the minimum salary for two <br />new deputies in the Sheriff's Department. On roll call vote, the motion <br />carried unanimously. <br /> <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Schneider moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to ratify Personnel <br />Overview Committee action of January 7,2002, to restructure the two <br />half-time support staff positions into one position in Social Services <br />with a county classification of A13. On roll call vote, the motion <br />carried unanimously. <br /> <br />16. SOCIAL SERVICES, Annual leave extension for Elise Torbenson <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Schneider moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded that Elise <br />Torbenson, Social Services employee, be granted a one-time <br />extension of her 3.25 hours of annual leave beyond the January 15th <br />deadline. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />17. SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT/DEPUTY BRUCE RENSHAW, Award Presentation <br />Dawn Olson, from the North Dakota Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Division, <br />presented a plaque and letter from North Dakota Governor John Hoeven to Lieutenant Mike <br />Argall, Cass County Sheriffs Department, recognizing the departmentfortheirefforts in the area <br />of child restraint and seat belt enforcement. Cass County Sheriffs Deputy, Bruce Renshaw, <br />was one of four officers across the State recognized for his commitment to promoting traffic <br />safety and the work he has done in this community on seatbelt enforcement. Deputy Renshaw <br />was present to receive the award, and he introduced family members who were also present. <br />Chairman Wieland added the Board's congratulations on the receipt of these State awards. <br /> <br />18. FARGO CASS COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION, Contract for <br />services for "Pilot Proaram" delayed <br />Tony Grindberg, Executive Vice President of the Fargo Cass County Economic Development <br />Corporation, was present to provide an update on the proposed "Pilot" program to increase the <br />skill levels of the under-employed and the refugee population. The Skills Development Task <br />Force is planning a two-phase approach to begin this month, and the goal for the first year is to <br />help at least 50 individuals gain the experience and training needed to acquire positions in <br />primary sector firms, manufacturing and other industries in this region. <br /> <br />Mr. Grindberg referenced his letter to the Board dated December 12, 2001, as well as a hand- <br />out today outlining the project costs and budget of $200,000. Funding sources for the skills <br />developmenttraining would be acquired from Cass County Government, the Skills & Technology <br />Center, a partnership between NDSU and NDSCS and the Community Development Block <br />Grant Program. Kathy Hogan, Social Services Director, is a member of the Skills Development <br />Task Force, and it was noted that existing resources within Cass County Social Services and <br />the North Dakota Job Service will be utilized to develop a one-stop center approach at the Skills <br />& Technology Training Center. <br />
