On roll call vote, the motion carried
unanimously.

13.

ANNEX REMODELING, Veterans Seryice Office filina system discussed
James Brent, Cass County Veterans Service Officer, was present to request approval for a rail-
type filing system, at a cost of approximately $7,000.00. He said this expenditure would allow
him to place client files, and other files, in the alcove adjacent to his office. Office space would
then be created in the existing file room for the veterans service representative who is in an
open area that does not afford him privacy for interviewing clients.

/"""'

Mrs. Schneider expressed her disappointment that Commission action of July 9, 2001, was not
followed, and she questioned how it got to this point. Remodeling concept #1 was approved
at the last Commission meeting, with no talk of purchasing a new file system, and she now
understands the remodeling is not going to take place as approved. The Commission voted on
the remodeling, and she assumed it would be followed through. Any change from that action
should have been brought back to the Board. Mr. Wieland said original discussions by the
County Commission did not include the purchase of a new file system, and, if that is needed,
it should be placed in the 2002 budget and discussed at a budget meeting.

Mr. Wagner and Mrs. Johnson talked about the subcommittee role in the remodeling project and
said the committee tried to find a common ground between Social Services and the Veterans
Service Office. The subcommittee did not reach a unanimous consensus.

Mr. Meyer said he could not support the motion for a new file system which would mean moving
the files out of the file room.
MOT/ON, passed
Mr. Wieland moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to revisit the issue of
the wall and the filing system at the next Commission meeting on
August 6, 2001. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously.

14. VOUCHERS, ADD roved
Mr. Wieland reviewed the vouchers, and he said one notable issue is the amount of money
spent on seminars and travel. He said the Commission may wish to look more closely at budget
requests for training seminars next year.
MOT/ON, passed
Mr. Wieland moved and Mrs. Schneider seconded to approve Voucher
No. 154,605 through No. 155,166. On roll call vote, the motion carried
unanimously.

--- 15.
