She said both leaves were approved
by the Commission. Mr. Denis addressed some questions regarding sick leave accrual and years
of service. Mrs. Johnson said Personnel Policy 7.70 addresses a one year leave of absence but
does not address a two year leave of absence.

Mr. Rudnick said that Mr. Denis knows that after the second year leave of absence that he is not
guaranteed a job in the Sheriff's Department. He said Mr. Denis' position has been filled. He
believes with the new jail, however, that job openings may be available.

Mr. Wieland feels that Mr. Denis' years of service should be retained, but that sick leave balances
and annual leave would have to start over, but with the years of service, he would begin accruing
two days per month. Mr. Wieland said after the 2nd complete year leave of absence, the employee
would lose all benefits and years of service. Mrs. Hogan suggested that when an employee takes
a leave of absence, that approved leave plans be drafted. Mrs. Ziegelmann suggested a plan be
in place even for someone taking a 45-day leave.

Mrs. Johnson suggested the committee make an exception to the policy since the second leave of
absence has already been approved by the Commission.
MOTION, passed
Mrs. Johnson moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to grant this one
exception to Personnel Policy 7.70, Leave of Absence, to Chris Denis, to
allow him to serve his second year in Kosovo since the leave of absence
was granted by the County Commission. The exception allows him to
return before the two years has expired and allows him to retain his years
of service but no other benefits, providing that the Sheriff has a position
open. Motion carried unanimously.

7.

ADJOURNMENT
MOTION, passed
On motion by Mrs. Johnson and seconded by Mr. Rudnick, the meeting
was adjourned about 2:10 PM.

Minutes prepared by Heather Worden, Administrative Secretary
