SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, Authorized to hire two Dart-time correctional officers <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Schneider moved and Mr. Wieland seconded to authorize the <br />Sheriff's Department to recruit and hire two (2) temporary job part- <br />time correctional officers as requested and outlined in a letter from <br />Sheriff Don Rudnick dated April 18, 2000. The outdoor recreation <br />position will be open from May 8-September 30, 2000, and the other <br />temporary position will be open from June 1-August 31,2000. On roll <br />call vote, motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />8. CONTRACT APPROVAL, North Dakota Department of TransDortation Traffic Safety: <br />Rustad's Gravel & Dirt Products: Valley Gravel Inc. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Schneider moved and Mr. Wieland seconded to approve the <br />following contracts submitted by respective department head and <br />portfolio commissioner, subject to state's attorney approval; and <br />authorize the chairman to sign: On roll call vote, motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />North Dakota Department of Transportation Traffic Safety for FY 2000; <br />Rustad's Gravel & Dirt Products for gravel products; <br />Valley Gravel Inc. for gravel products. <br /> <br />9. ROAD DEPARTMENT, Spring weight restrictions on county roads <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Schneider moved and Mr. Wieland seconded to approve <br />discontinuing spring load restrictions for county highways on May 8, <br />2000, except for the following: Cass County 5 from Erie to County line <br />(Class 1); Cass County 10 from Casselton to Cass 11 (Class 1); and <br />Cass County 6 from Cass 17 to 1-29 (Modified Class 1). On roll call <br />vote, motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />10. JAIL UPDATE, Change order committee and change order form established <br />Mrs. Johnson said printing of the jail blueprints will begin tomorrow and will be mailed to <br />contractors next week. She said during the construction process ofthe Cass County Annex, the <br />board of commissioners established a procedure regarding change orders. She recommends <br />the county implement a similar process for the jail project by establishing a monetary threshold <br />regarding change orders requiring commission action. The process will keep the project moving <br />along. The change orders will come directly from Foss Associates. She suggests that a <br />committee be formed to review all change order requests. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Quick moved and Mrs. Schneider seconded to establish a county <br />committee consisting of Auditor Mike Montplaisir, County Engineer <br />Keith Berndt, County Coordinator/Jail Project Coordinator Bonnie <br />Johnson, Jail Administrator Walt Willis, and Commissioner John <br />Meyer to review all change order requests from the architect and to <br />allow change orders up to $5,000 to be negotiated and authorized by <br />the committee on the board's behalf.
