room. The water consistently leaks under the wall and causes water problems in the patrol squad <br /> room. The patrol unit has to monitor the snow melting from the vehicle and squeegee the water <br /> to the drain or the carpets and equipment on the floor in the squad room becomes wet. The <br /> patrol unit also runs a high density carpet fan to keep the carpet dry in the squad room. <br /> The garage is an enormous benefit for investigations as it allows a storage place for evidence and <br /> provides a sufficient place to search vehicles suspected in criminal activity. The garage is also <br /> utilized for large patrol storage. There is equipment from the patrol cars that are not used. For <br /> instance the Tahoe driven by the dog handler does not utilize the rear seat as the dog kennel is <br /> permanently mounted in the rear of the vehicle. There are additional vehicle cages and other <br /> large equipment that until recently was stored at places like Mid States Wireless. Storing the <br /> Sheriff's Office equipment has made the office much more accountable knowing the inventory <br /> on hand. The garage also allows us to be more efficient with seasonal equipment as we can <br /> deploy the equipment right from the West Station. <br /> The building is adequate but, other than the garage there is absolutely no storage in the entire <br /> building. Some equipment cannot be stored in the garage. The patrol unit and investigations <br /> unit work out of the West Station. This merger has been successful. The initial person taking <br /> reports are the patrol staff and investigators follow up on available leads. The merger has <br /> allowed a closer relationship between patrol and investigations and allows the patrol staff access <br /> and knowledge into the investigation. The merger also allows the mentor relationship between <br /> patrol and investigations to flourish. The Sheriff's Office has two investigators that do not have <br /> offices at the West Station. They work on the Cass County Drug Task Force. It is not possible <br /> to have the same relationship with the drug investigators and the patrol deputies. This <br />
