Sergeants each have their own office, the three Corporals share an office and all three
investigators at the West Station have their own office. The last office is occupied by an
administrative assistant and her office doubles as a report storage area which meets the minimal
requirements for National Crime Information Center(NCIC) in reference to report storage.
The building is adequate; however does provide challenges. The building is not very efficient.
The offices are cold in the winter and hot in the summer. The building is constructed of metal
and the deputies very seldom receive radio transmissions through their portable radios while in
the office. There are two base radio stations that require an external antenna to operate properly.
In order for anyone to hear and or respond to the radio, they regularly need to utilize the base
station. The base stations cost approximately $5,000.00 for the radio. Installation and antennas
would be additional costs. The building was built for an industrial company with offices in the
front and some garage space in the rear of the building. The West Station shares a common wall
on each side. The West side is shared with Patterson Dental and the East side with Schindler
Elevator Corporation. The East side has more garage space than office space and is loud when
the elevator staff is working in the garage. This industrial noise affects four of the offices at the
West Station.
The heating and cooling runs are all connected and conversations are heard in the front offices
from the patrol squad room in the back. The squad room also hears conversations from the front
offices. There is not any privacy in the West Station and this would include the bathrooms.
Obviously there are doors and walls surrounding the rest rooms; however there is no area of the
building that is sound proof.
