GREATER <br /> FargçiMoorhead <br /> Economic Development Corporation <br /> Objective 3 Workforce Attraction and development <br /> • GFMEDC led 10 community tours, distributed resumes and welcome packets and assisted trailing <br /> spouses. <br /> • ND and MN STEM Networks: Continued participation in the communication sub-committee. <br /> Participated in two state wide meetings for STEM in MN. <br /> • Continuing partnership with MSUM to find ways we can connect with their alumni. Sponsored <br /> homecoming activities and 4th of July as a way to reach alumni. Sponsored giveaway cups at the <br /> MSUM homecoming Color Run as part of the 125th anniversary. <br /> • Met with Adam Gehlhar, West Fargo Public Schools to review a WFPS proposal to develop a <br /> professional development program for teachers focusing on STEM education and project-based <br /> learning. The GFMEDC wrote and provided a letter of support for the program. <br /> • The GFMEDC's manufacturing committee, held quarterly, is promoting the Minn-Dak meetings to <br /> counselors to gain awareness of manufacturing occupations. A representative from Minn-Dak joined <br /> the committee as a full time member. Each month counselor attendance has increased. <br /> • Held Workforce Council meeting and visited with new potential members to get their thoughts on <br /> workforce initiatives. <br /> • The GFMEDC is in the process of facilitating the third year of the Teachers in Industry program, <br /> growing to six participating companies and six teachers. <br /> • Held two Smart Connections events where participants connected in a casual atmosphere to meet and <br /> discuss possible employment opportunities. IT programming and engineer trades were highlighted. <br /> • Meetings with the Fargo, Moorhead, and West Fargo Public Schools and the United Way to discuss <br /> partnerships for 21st century skills within our school districts. Group will focus on communication to <br /> parents and ways to provide additional professional development for teachers. <br /> • Presented at the EDND Spring Conference on the importance of STEM Education relative to economic <br /> development. <br /> • Serve as a board member for the local Health Tech and Trades Expo set for December 12, 2013. <br /> • Met with Concordia's alumni office. Promoted CareerFM website at the Concordia Homecoming game <br /> by throwing promotional footballs. Discussed possible partnership with the Offutt School of Business <br /> Presents programs in Minneapolis. <br /> • The GFMEDC sponsored the TEDx Fargo event "Rethink Learning," which Jim Gartin co-hosted. <br /> • Worked with NDSU alumni office to promote the GFMEDC website and careers page on the Bison <br /> Watch party listings. GFMEDC will be the sole advertiser on the game watch sites for Bison football <br /> playoffs. Working with alumni relations to collaborate on potential Facebook posts to increase <br /> awareness of EDC. <br /> • Met twice with MSUM President and Provost to discuss a sixth sector breakfast for programming for <br /> teacher development. Coordinated and attended the MSUM Education Sector Breakfast with K-12 <br /> leaders and higher education leadership at MSUM to discuss ways to strengthen teacher preparation. <br /> Discussed starting a job shadowing program experience for business majors wanting to explore various <br /> career opportunities. <br /> • Met with higher ed leadership to discuss potential Professors in Industry. <br /> • Met with West Fargo planning team to be part of the discussion regarding their professional <br /> development day in February 2014. <br /> • Held Manufacturing Committee meeting. <br /> • Held Manufacturing Day, on Oct 4th where junior and senior students learned about careers in <br /> manufacturing. Students toured Trail King Industries, CAT, John Deere Electronic Solutions, Appareo <br /> Systems and Integrity Windows. Provided information on Manufacturing Day to Holly Miller from the <br /> Jamestown EDC to host a similar event in Jamestown. <br />
