Discussed options for other career <br /> choices for the students who are academically suspended. <br /> • Met with local STEM advocate on starting a new Innovation Lab in the Metro area—waiting to hear on <br /> grant funding <br /> • Attended meeting with West Fargo schools and the City of West Fargo to discuss a mentorship <br /> platform idea and grants that would support that type of initiative. <br /> • Multiple meetings with President John Richman, NDSCS regarding the Manufacturing Training <br /> Academy. <br /> • Participated as panel judges for STEM activity at NDSCS "You're Hired" event. <br /> • Met with NDSCS on new website for sharing equipment information. <br /> • Met with Sanford to review GFMEDC collateral materials including our quality of life DVD, brochure and <br /> Images magazine. Also explained the GFMEDC can be a resource when hiring from outside the region. <br /> • Hosted lunched for a Bison Ambassadors group to get their thoughts on staying in Fargo Moorhead <br /> after graduation and to gauge their awareness of local jobs. <br /> • Met with NDSU alumni to discuss coordination of our efforts to bring their alumni back to the FM region. <br /> Discussed possibly hosting a social media event in another metro and include various industries. <br /> • Meeting with Melinda Rustad from Globe University to discuss course offerings to help fill the needs <br /> within the local markets and to discuss the Workforce and Education Committee she chairs for the <br /> FMWF Chamber. <br /> • Toured MIState with Mark Altenburg and visited with instructors on course offerings. <br /> • Provided contacts to GL Tucker from MIState in Detroit Lakes to get their input and establish new <br /> curriculum for two year welding degree. <br /> • Participated as interviewers for mock interviews at West Fargo High business class. <br /> • Met with representatives from NDSU Social Research Department to explore MN and ND compass <br /> websites. <br /> Meetings Attended: <br /> Fargo Public Schools PTA Awards Luncheon <br /> NDSCS to discuss industry needs for biotechnology, nano-electronics, microelectronics technology. <br /> K-12 STEM meeting at Dakota Medical Foundation. <br /> Phone calls with Randy Schwartz from Manufacturing Extension Partnership <br /> MSUM Sector Breakfasts <br /> Chamber luncheon, "The Changing Demographics of Workforce" <br /> Governors/SHRM workforce conference. Facilitated one of the breakout sessions: "Building a <br /> workforce: Business and Education Partnership" <br /> ND Job Service Wage and Hour Law seminar <br /> United Way's Women's luncheon <br /> Project Lead the Way Conference with ND and SD <br /> Workforce Luncheon hosted by the FM Area Foundation <br /> Venture Youth Alliance board meeting <br /> Minn-Dak luncheon: Welding Association Speaker <br /> Objective 4: Build regional capacity/implement Cass/Clay Economic Plan <br /> • Collaborative participation and sponsorship in planning Start Up Weekend 2013, a 54 hour competition <br /> for entrepreneurs. Jim Gartin judged presentations at concluding event of Startup Weekend. <br /> Participated in planning for 2014 Start Up Weekend. <br />
