GREATER ar o oor ea Economic Development Corporation • Met with the admissions and registrar representative from NDSU. Discussed options for other career choices for the students who are academically suspended. • Met with local STEM advocate on starting a new Innovation Lab in the Metro area—waiting to hear on grant funding • Attended meeting with West Fargo schools and the City of West Fargo to discuss a mentorship platform idea and grants that would support that type of initiative. • Multiple meetings with President John Richman, NDSCS regarding the Manufacturing Training Academy. • Participated as panel judges for STEM activity at NDSCS "You're Hired" event. • Met with NDSCS on new website for sharing equipment information. • Met with Sanford to review GFMEDC collateral materials including our quality of life DVD, brochure and Images magazine. Also explained the GFMEDC can be a resource when hiring from outside the region. • Hosted lunched for a Bison Ambassadors group to get their thoughts on staying in Fargo Moorhead after graduation and to gauge their awareness of local jobs. • Met with NDSU alumni to discuss coordination of our efforts to bring their alumni back to the FM region. Discussed possibly hosting a social media event in another metro and include various industries. • Meeting with Melinda Rustad from Globe University to discuss course offerings to help fill the needs within the local markets and to discuss the Workforce and Education Committee she chairs for the FMWF Chamber. • Toured MIState with Mark Altenburg and visited with instructors on course offerings. • Provided contacts to GL Tucker from MIState in Detroit Lakes to get their input and establish new curriculum for two year welding degree. • Participated as interviewers for mock interviews at West Fargo High business class. • Met with representatives from NDSU Social Research Department to explore MN and ND compass websites. Meetings Attended: Fargo Public Schools PTA Awards Luncheon NDSCS to discuss industry needs for biotechnology, nano-electronics, microelectronics technology. K-12 STEM meeting at Dakota Medical Foundation. Phone calls with Randy Schwartz from Manufacturing Extension Partnership MSUM Sector Breakfasts Chamber luncheon, "The Changing Demographics of Workforce" Governors/SHRM workforce conference. Facilitated one of the breakout sessions: "Building a workforce: Business and Education Partnership" ND Job Service Wage and Hour Law seminar United Way's Women's luncheon Project Lead the Way Conference with ND and SD Workforce Luncheon hosted by the FM Area Foundation Venture Youth Alliance board meeting Minn-Dak luncheon: Welding Association Speaker Objective 4: Build regional capacity/implement Cass/Clay Economic Plan • Collaborative participation and sponsorship in planning Start Up Weekend 2013, a 54 hour competition for entrepreneurs. Jim Gartin judged presentations at concluding event of Startup Weekend. Participated in planning for 2014 Start Up Weekend.
