MTP FOllOW-UP ACTIVITIES

Several planning and monitoring activities are recommended for Metro COG and its
participating jurisdictions over the five years following adoption of this MTP. These activities
are intended to enhance and facilitate the 2008 update of the MTP, They include the following:

1.

Continue conducting sub-area traffic and corridor studies to address specific transportation
concerns and urban growth issues as they are identified.

2,

Monitor, using the recently established COG Modeling Committee, state-of-the-art
transportation forecasting methods, to identify new approaches, software, or data needs that
will be required to conduct an update of the model.

3.

Continue working with the participating jurisdictions, NDDOT and Mn/DOT to improve
the regularity, compatibility and reliability of data inputs into the GIS system. Determine if
land use data as the basis for modeling is feasible, given the existing level to which
development is monitored and reported.

4.

Incorporate into the annual preparation of Metro COG's Surveillance and Monitoring
program, a project status of the MTP's short and long-range project, so that by 2008,
project completion is readily available and up-to-date.

5.

Continue to encourage local jurisdictions to promote a consistent approach to such key
transportation issues as:

.

access management
corridor preservation

.

.

subdivision regulations related to transportation
transit

.

.

travel demand management

6.

Continue to monitor changes in the existing transportation facilities' condition or status, to
simplify data gathering efforts for the 2008 update of the MTP.

7.

Program short range MTP projects into the Metropolitan Transportation Improvement
Program (TIP), based on local and state DOT support.

8.

Monitor short and long-range project status, and prepare MTP amendments if justified by
new information, need, revised local priorities, or screening factor updates,

Executive Summary - Fargo-Moorhead Metropolitan Area Transportation Plan Update
Fargo-Moorhead Metropolitan Council of Governments

June 2004
Page 27
