Commission Minutes--August 19, 1998 1855 <br /> <br />DEPARTMENT HEADS--PLEASE POST IN A CONSPICUOUS PLACE FOR STAFF TO READ <br /> <br /> SPECIAL MEETING OF CASS COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> MEETING IN BUDGET SESSION <br /> AUGUST 19, 1998 <br />MEETING TO ORDER <br />Chairman Donna Schneider called the budget meeting to order at 9:00 AM on August 19, 1998, <br />in the Commission Room, Cass County Courthouse, with all members present as follows: Paul <br />Koenig, John Meyer, Roberta Quick, Alon Wieland, and Donna Schneider. <br /> <br />OVERVIEW BY COUNTY AUDITOR <br />County Auditor Michael Montplaisir went over the budget summary and explained some of the <br />causes of the budget increasing and the increasing levy. <br /> <br />Board reviewed the County Auditor budget. Mr. Montplaisir noted the increased costs for travel <br />and education, copier purchase, increased salary for the cemetery sextant, and election <br />equipment. Mr. Koenig said he would like the $130,000 for election equipment set aside for <br />future discussion. <br /> <br />County Commission reviewed the Register of Deeds budget with Deanna Kensrud. The board <br />discussed the new computer system being proposed for the Register of Deeds. Ms. Kensrud <br />discussed the need for additional staff and a copier replacement. Mr. Koenig noted that he would <br />like the copier to be set aside for future discussion. <br /> <br />County Commission reviewed the budget of the County Treasurer with Charlotte Sandvik. <br />Discussion was held on bank fees and travel for one employee to the HTE conference. <br /> MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Koenig moved and Mr. Meyer seconded to approve the budget of <br /> the County Treasurer. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />County Commission reviewed the budget of the Director of Equalization with Frank Klein. <br />Discussion was held on increasing revenues by $10,000 to cover the possible expense of <br />ordering a reassessment of a township, or townships, in 1999. The auditor will make the <br />adjustment. Discussion was also held on the computer request, and the auditor made the <br />suggestion to move the intern position computer to the Tax Director's Office to eliminate the need <br />for the computer. <br /> MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Koenig moved and Mr. Meyer seconded to approve the Director of <br /> Equalization budget, with $2,000 for computer equipment being <br /> removed. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />County Commission discussed the Extension Service budget with Brad Cogdill. Major items of <br />discussion were office equipment and a new staff request. No action was taken. <br /> <br />Kathy Anderson presented a budget request on behalf of the Cass County Historical Society. <br />She outlined their goals and accomplishments for 1998, as well as their goals for 1999. <br /> <br /> <br />
