I have also spoken to officers from federal,
state and other local agencies concerning this issue.

The State Capitol, Federal Courthouse (except court
area), Grand Forks County, Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo
Police Departments all allow law enforcement to carry
firearms within their secure areas. State law also allows
officers to carry firearms within public buildings and at
public gatherings.

Chief Magnus drafted a proposal that I would ask the
ComMission adopt at their next commission meeting. It
addresses those areas that may be of concern to some
and resolves any issues of when and where a firearm may
be carried within the Cass County Courthouse.

Sample Motion:

Move to approve the Security Consideration
for Law Enforcement Officers at the Cass
County Courthouse and Annex

Respectfully,

Donald J.
