Commission Minutes-March 27, 2009 3493 <br />Rogness said the county is looking for cooperation from citizens to <br />make any necessary arrangements. Mr. Wagner said it is important for <br />those being asked to evacuate to do so before dark, as rescues are not <br />being conducted at night because of the dangerous conditions. Sheriff <br />Laney said their department is assigned to protect and serve the <br />citizens and said the evacuations are a precautionary measure. Mr. <br />Berndt said the intent of the evacuation is not to forcibly remove <br />anyone from their homes and he hopes homeowners will evacuate by <br />tonight. Mr. Bennett said the county has an obligation to not increase <br />panic with the public. On roll call vote, the motion carried with four <br />members voting "Yes" and Mr. Bennett voting "No". <br />Mr. Bennett objects to mandatory evacuations. He stressed the need to look at areas of <br />improvement after the flood. <br />Mr. Berndt said the National Guard and Sheriff's Department will continue to patrol the <br />dikes, check sump pumps and protect the neighborhoods from looting. <br />5.
