Assists veterans and other <br />applicants in gathering medical and other evidence in support of claims. <br /> <br />15% Manages and supervises the employees of the Veteran's Service Office to assure <br />effective and efficient service to veterans and their dependents and widows. <br />Compiles and prepares departmental budget and related office records. <br /> <br />3% Maintains communication with the veteran's community, all veteran's organizations, <br />as well as the civic and business community. Participates in and attends <br />conferences and conventions relating to the field of veteran's affairs so as to be <br />current and knowledgeable on all matters affecting veteran's benefits. Prepares <br />and presents talks to civic groups on matters pertaining to veteran's affairs. <br /> <br />3% Performs public relations responsibilities. Maintains a relationship with public <br />media, civic and service groups, veteran's organizations and community leaders in <br />order to advance the veteran's programs of the Cass County Veteran's Services <br />and to promote a better image of county government. Prepares public statements, <br />speeches and announcements for the Cass County Veteran's Services, and <br />represents the department as a speaker when requested. Assists other veteran's <br />organization service officers in developing their own programs. Provides guidance <br />to other veteran's organizations service officers and post commanders concerning <br />changes in laws, rules and regulations made on federal, state and county levels <br />and also serves as a point of contact for them and for the news media for inquiries <br />of this nature. Maintains contact and a good working relationship with the North <br />Dakota Veteran's Home. <br /> <br />1 % Prepares and publishes the annual report. <br /> <br />3% Attends spring and fall training conferences for state certification provided by the <br />Commissioner, North Dakota Department of Veteran's Affairs. <br /> <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABlUTlES <br /> <br />A. Enlist and retain the respect, confidence and cooperation of <br />veteran's agencies. Supervise and direct the work of employees within the <br />department.
