"

Stanley Township Board
Perry Ronning, Clerk
6026 64th Ave. S
Horace NO 58047

May 21,2008

Re: Bridge between Sections 35 & 36.

Dear Perry,

It is has now been over two years since a spring flood damaged the bridge between
sections 35 and 36. It has remained closed to traffic with the exception of a few months in the
spring of 2007 when the bridge was repaired and reopened. The first time the bridge failed, the
Cass County Road Department placed a road barricade on the north side of the bridge to warn
motorists of the hazard After the water receded and the road from the bridge to the farm became
passable, we realized that vehicles were crossing the bridge from the south side unaware that the
bridge had failed. The Stanley Township Board was informed of this hazard and it was agreed
that I would erect a fence to block the bridge from being accessed The fence remained in place
until the bridge was rebuilt. Last spring the bridge failed again, and the county barricaded the
north side while I fenced off on the south side. County Engineer Keith Berndt informed me that
the bridge would be rebuilt over winter but to date, all that has been done is the removal of debris
from under and around the bridge.
This problem has gone on for too long. Our mail is delivered only a quarter mile from
home on the opposite side of the bridge, but we have had to drive over an eight-mile round-trip
to pick it up. In addition, snow accumulates around the mailboxes causing our vehicles to get
stuck. This snow is normally cleared with the use of my farm equipment Furthermore, our road
access from the west will be interrupted with Fargo's south side flood project
The bridge needs to be rebuilt soon. We have endured this problem long enough! The
bridge can still serve its function if it were rebuilt and properly anchored. It still has many years
of service left
I ask that a request be made to the county road department to have this bridge repaired as
soon as possi~le so that our lifestyle can return too normal. Thank: you in advance for your
consideration.

Warren L. Solberg
11601 25th St S.
Horace ND 58047

Cc. Mr. Keith Berndt, Cass County Engineer
Cass County Highway Department .
1201 Main Ave. West
West Fargo NO 58078
