Item #2 The generators stack; The generator exhaust stack was installed during the
construction of the original jail project, no modifications were considered or made to the
stack. during design or construction of the addition. The fresh air intake of the addition
according to Dave Obermiller of ONE is found to meet the required separation from the
existing stack but it doesn't mean there isn't a possibility of foul air getting into the intake
under the '~rong" conditions. Wind speed and direction along with roof top irregularities.
the mechanical items all have an impact on the stack. exhaust and where the air comes from
to the intakes. It is apparent now that these elements are having an impact on the stack
exhausts ability to enter the intake of the new addition under certain circumstances or
conditions. Dave Obermiller's site inspection and opinion concurs with that of Grant's
Mechanical and that extending the stack should eliminate the problem that currently exists.
ONE has agreed to work with Grant's or any other contractor you would choose to use and
assist in the design and calculations relating to the extension of the generator stack. Foss
Architecture will provide assistance once again to coordinate the efforts on Cass County's
behalf if you so choose.

Due to my upcoming absence and in the essence of time, I ask that you contact Tom
Dewald, our construction administrator if you would like our help regarding these two items.
Tom has agreed to offer his available time within his schedule to acquire quick responses
from the Engineers and work through Cass County with the contractors who are capable of
making the necessary repairs. Tom will also assist in documenting the findings to evaluate
the failure and provide solutions for your comment and direction.

If you have further questions or comments I will respond as soon as possible prior to my
departure or upon my return.

Sincerely

Foss Architecture & Interiors

~~

Rick Hoganson~
Principal

End.

.....~....
