They are seeking assistance from Cass County with their several miles of township roads. They
believe their situation is unique in that they have a Sugar Beet piling station on a township road while other piling stations
in the Valley are on State or County Highways. Their township has negotiated a deal with the growers to pay $.12/ton to
the township to help with the extra road maintenance, but they've indicated it doesn't come close to covering their added
cost because of the beet piling station. The township board has approached American Crystal about their dilemma.
American Crystal in turn arranged a meeting the the County Engineer, but appears unwilling to commit funding to the
township.

As you are well aware, I've got my own financial challenges and don't have any funding set aside to assist a township.
Nevertheless, I feel it warrants a discussion by the Road Advisory Committee. I would recommend that we schedule a
short meeting in the near future to discuss the matter. If its decided to schedule a meeting, I'll provide additional
information prior to the meeting.

berndtk@casscountvnd.Qov

1
