Commission Minutes-September 2, 2008 3417

who will leave their current furniture at the Annex. This will save on moving costs and allow
for a better fit-up of the smaller offices.

Mr. Bennett suggested the county consider eliminating any type of storage in the basement.
Mr. Wagner said at the present time county offices are cramped and need storage space.
The plan recommended by the consultant is for a three-year period, and a new addition may
help address long-term storage issues.
MOTION, passed
Mr. Wagner moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to approve the actions of
the Building Committee to allocate space on the third floor between the
State's Attorney Office, Veteran's Service Office and Clerk of Court for
filing space; and to authorize the County Administrator to move forward
with Christianson's Business Furniture to fit-up the space on the third
floor. Costs for the fit-up will come from available funding in the
respective 2008 office budgets and the Cass County Building Fund.
Discussion: Mr. Wagner said the motion includes the understanding that
the Clerk of District Court will move stored items from the north
basement to the location on the third floor to allow the County Recorder
to use the space in the north basement storage room. The file room on
third floor would be used by the Clerk of Court for a three-year period.
On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously.

8. VOUCHERS, Approved
MOTION, passed
Mrs. Sorum moved and Mr. Wagner seconded to approve Voucher No.
229,240 through Voucher No. 229,556. On roll call vote, the motion
carried unanimously.

9. JOINT LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER; STATE'S ATTORNEY REPORT; BUILDINGS &
GROUNDS PROJECTS, Committee reports
Mr. Wagner said the Building Committee met last month with the Sheriff and representatives
from the Fargo Police Department and Highway Patrol to discuss the option of a joint law
enforcement center at the jail site. Currently, cost figures and square footage estimates are
being obtained. Mr. Bennett believes the county needs additional acreage at the jail site in
order to consider this option.

State's Attorney Birch Burdick thanked the Building Committee and the Cass County
Commission for the additional space allocated to their office on third floor.

Mrs. Johnson said a project to tuck point the Courthouse bell tower will begin the week of
September 15th. Also, as a result of offices re-Iocating to the third floor, signage will need to
be re-worked at the Courthouse and Annex and she will meet with the vendor this week to
begin this project.

10. CORRESPONDENCE, Received and filed
MOTION, passed
Mr. Wagner moved and Mr. Bennett seconded to receive and file
correspondence outlined by the secretary as follows: Motion carried.
