<br />Commission Minutes-August 11, 2008 3406 <br /> <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Vanyo moved and Mr. Wagner seconded to remove $2,000 for <br />office furniture for the additional employee. On roll call vote, the <br />motion carried with four members voting "Yes" and Mr. Bennett <br />voting "No". <br /> <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Wagner moved and Mr. Vanyo seconded to approve the 2009 <br />preliminary budget for Veterans Service as amended. On roll call <br />vote, the motion carried with three members voting "Yes" and Mr. <br />Bennett and Mrs. Sorum voting "No". <br /> <br />1 O. WEED CONTROL <br />Stan Wolf, Weed Control Director, and Larry Wilcox, Chairman of the Cass County Weed <br />Board, were present. Mr. Wolf said his budget request for 2009 is similar to last year except <br />for increased vehicle fuel and travel expenditures. The weed board approved a reduction in <br />the mill levy from 2.35 to 2.00 mills for 2009. The board anticipates lowering the mill levy will <br />maintain or slowly decrease year-end balances and cash reserves. <br /> <br />Mr. Pawluk asked about costs compared to past years. Mr. Wolf said spraying costs through <br />the use of two contractors are about $45 per acre with 4,600 to 5,000 acres treated. Mr. <br />Pawluk said when county staff did the spraying, costs were around $200 per acre and only <br />2,000 acres were treated. Mr. Pawluk commended Mr. Wolf and the weed board for their <br />efforts. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Bennett moved and Mr. Wagner seconded to approve the 2009 <br />preliminary budget for Weed Control as submitted at 2.00 mills. On <br />roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />11. FARGO CASS PUBLIC HEALTH <br />Ruth Bachmeier, Director of Fargo Cass Public Health, was present. The budget request for <br />Fargo Cass Public Health increased by 3.8% compared to last year. Out of the 3.8%, 3% is <br />for cost of living increases. The total budget request is $563,164 for 2009. <br /> <br />Ms. Bachmeier said the request for the Cass County Jail Health budget increased by 3% for <br />cost of living adjustments. The total budget request is $287,756 for 2009. <br /> <br />There was discussion about the portion contributed by West Fargo compared to Fargo and <br />Cass County. Ms. Bachmeier said discussions will be held with West Fargo officials to <br />review their contribution. She said 77% of their clients are from Fargo, 7% are from Cass <br />County, and 16% are from West Fargo. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Bennett moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to approve the 2009 <br />preliminary budgets for Fargo Cass Public Health and Cass County <br />Jail Health. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br />
